Being an old-school analog girl attached to physical artifacts (which are symbolic of our history), I was previously resistant to the cyber world. As a music journalist who came up with the vibes and the rolling stones, it was hard for me to accept that anybody with computer access can now be an authority in media criticism. Yet the only constant is change–flux, and I soon came to the realization that i can’t ignore the metamorphosis and the evolution of our culture, but i can continue posing questions and continue being analytical of the tools given to us, i.e. are they self serving, advantageous to the progression of human kind, or allowing us to express our truest creative selves?

This site is the attempt to answer such questions, as well as be an affirmation to the architects, innovators, and audacious warriors of the past, present and future who laid this shit down, and who’s arduous crafts and labor have been continuously appropriated to serve the dominant culture. I put a glass up, and a pen down to pay homage, and share their words with the world, because they are immortal.

From hood cat, to pimp, to religious leader, to revolutionary, I look to El Hajj Malik El Shabazz’s story for guidance and perspective on our purpose and collective consciousness. We are all on this journey…so get your soulayinflux on!

This site was never solely intended to be a poetry site. I welcome ideas for other forms of entries, but people have been very receptive to the vulnerability and emotive nature of the poetic form. I’ll honor that as long as it’s needed.

Word em up! Bless.
